We're looking for a talented Senior Android Engineer who is passionate about changing the way people learn English. As an Android engineer @ Cambly, you'll be part of a fast-moving engineering team of ~15 engineers. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-performance features while maintaining a robust, scalable codebase. You'll be a key contributor to most feature work and have significant ownership over our entire Android platform.

Our app is in Kotlin and follows a Reactive programming paradigm.

Come help us:

  • Conceive, design, build, and launch new user-facing features

  • Lead development of new features and improvements for Cambly’s Android app.

  • Optimize performance and ensure a smooth, high-quality tutoring experience.

  • Collaborate with product and design teams to build product experiences that help students find the perfect tutor, create a learning plan, and build their English Fluency.

  • Maintain a high code quality product through code reviews, testing, and best practices.

  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of learning and growth.

Work on projects like:

  • Building a tutor discovery experience that is fun, engaging, and effective at connecting students with the perfect tutor

  • Creating a classroom experience where lesson content is generated by AI to be tailored to the learner's needs

  • Building post-lesson activities that are curated to fit each learner's areas for improvement

About you:

  • 5+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin.

  • Deep understanding of Android frameworks, Jetpack components, and modern development patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).

  • Strong grasp of networking (REST, WebSockets) and offline-first architectures.

  • Experience with localization

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment best practices.

  • Familiarity with Jetpack Compose and modern UI development is a plus.

  • Passion for building products that impact global users, especially in EdTech.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the expected base salary range for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Compensation Package

$160,000-$190,000 USD Base Salary + Pre-IPO Stock Options
